AI chatbot for your website: what it can do and what it costs
Visitors ask questions your website already answers, they just can't find them. An AI chatbot answers around the clock based on your own content and hands enquiries to you when it matters.
In short
An AI chatbot for your website answers visitors' questions in natural language, based on your own texts, prices and FAQ. It pays off when the same questions keep coming back. As a guide, a chatbot with your own company knowledge costs €1,500 to €4,000 one-off (incl. VAT), plus roughly €20 to €150 a month running costs. Instalments are possible.
What an AI chatbot can and can't do
- Answer questions about services, prices, process, opening hours and location
- Guide visitors to the right page or to appointment booking
- Collect contact details and the request and pass it on to you as an enquiry
- Reply in German and English if your website is multilingual
- Not: make legally binding promises, calculate individual quotes or answer questions it has no knowledge about. In that case it hands over to a person.
Who this pays off for
- You regularly get the same questions by email, phone or form
- Your visitors also come in the evening and at weekends, when nobody replies
- Your services need a little explaining before someone enquires
- You want more enquiries from the website traffic you already have
How the process works
- 1
Collect knowledge
Website texts, price list, FAQ and frequent customer questions are gathered and prepared.
- 2
Set the rules
Tone, language, topics and limits: what may the chatbot answer, and when does it hand over to you?
- 3
Build and connect
The chatbot is built into your website. Enquiries can go to email or into your CRM.
- 4
Test
Check with real sample questions whether the answers are right, including questions that have no answer.
- 5
Launch and improve
After launch the conversations are reviewed and the knowledge is extended continuously.
Data protection and transparency
- Tell visitors clearly that they are chatting with an AI
- Add the chatbot and the AI service used to your privacy policy
- Choose providers with EU processing or proper data processing agreements
- Don't invite visitors to type sensitive data such as health or bank details into the chat
- Store conversations only as long as you need them for improvement
What an AI chatbot costs
The figures are guide prices incl. VAT for Austria and Germany (2026) and depend on scope and integrations.
| Option | What's included | Guide price one-off |
|---|---|---|
| Simple FAQ bot | Answers fixed questions, no free-form AI replies | €300 – 900 |
| AI chatbot with company knowledge | Replies freely based on your content, passes on enquiries | €1,500 – 4,000 |
| Chatbot with integrations | Plus appointment booking, CRM or shop | €3,000 – 8,000 |
Running costs for AI services and hosting: usually roughly €20 to €150 a month. Instalments are possible.
Chatbot, automation or a better website?
A chatbot doesn't replace a clear website. If visitors can't find your prices and process, better structure comes first. If the questions keep coming anyway, the chatbot pays off. If many enquiries arrive by email, an automation can also draft the replies, as described in our guide on email enquiries. What implementation costs overall and how to work out whether it pays off is covered in our guide on the cost of AI automation.
What people usually ask
01Can the chatbot give wrong answers?
Yes, that can happen with any AI. That's why it answers only from your own content, says when it doesn't know and then hands over to you. Before launch it is tested with real questions.
02Do I need a new website for this?
No. The chatbot can be built into an existing website. The better your content is structured, the better it answers.
03Is an AI chatbot GDPR-compliant?
That depends on the implementation: a notice that it is an AI, an entry in the privacy policy, a provider with suitable agreements and little stored data. It doesn't replace legal advice for your case.
04Can I pay for the chatbot in instalments?
Yes. The cost can be split into instalments, agreed in the quote.
